We appear before all levels of courts in Singapore jurisdiction and in domestic and international arbitrations. We frequently act in cross-border cases where we act for clients outside of jurisdiction, such as China, Hong Kong, London, Malaysia, Mexico and Saudi Arabia.
That said, as part and parcel of dispute resolution, alternative dispute resolution can come into play wherever appropriate or where it is in the interest of clients. In this regard, we are also experienced in all manners of alternative dispute resolution, including adjudication, mediation and neutral evaluation, with some of our lawyers being arbitrators, mediators and adjudicators themselves.
WORK HIGHLIGHTS, representing:
- A distress fund based in Europe in SIAC arbitration in a claim exceeding USD 18 million regarding the issuance and redemption of bonds by an Indonesian poultry conglomerate. Successfully obtained an arbitral award for the amount claimed plus costs.
- An airtug operator of a local airline who caused damage to Changi Airport, which resulted in a closure order that led to business interruption losses to tenants, among others. The case involved novel issues of the principles that apply for duty of care in relation to economic losses.
- A high net worth client in High Court proceedings in defending a claim in excess of USD 14 million. This is a complex case in relation to credit facilities and securities, with challenging issues like tort of conspiracy, fraud, breach of fiduciary and common law duties of directors.
- A property development company in successfully defending a claim of S$1.4 million in alleged loans.
- An MNC company to resist a claim by the plaintiff for alleged infringement of its patents relating to a coupling device to secure shipping containers commonly known as a twistlock.
